PRIVACY POLICY

Privacy should be understandable.

Praveta helps people understand government activity in plain language. This policy explains what information Praveta collects, why, and the choices you have. Praveta is an independent civic information platform and is not a government agency.

Reading Praveta does not require an account

You can read bills, plain-language briefs, representative profiles, recorded votes, published local government information, and community poll results without creating an account and without signing in. Praveta does not require you to identify yourself to read public government information.

Information Praveta collects

Praveta collects the following information.

Account information

When you create a Praveta account, Praveta collects your email address, a password, and a username you choose. Authentication is handled by Supabase, and Praveta does not store your plain-text password.

Location you provide

If you choose to personalize Praveta, you may provide a ZIP code. Praveta uses it to identify the state, congressional district, county, and participating local organizations relevant to you. Praveta does not collect GPS or precise device location on the web.

Follows and preferences

If you follow bills, representatives, or topics, Praveta stores those choices with your account so they are available when you sign in. Notification preferences you set are also stored with your account.

Poll participation

If you respond to a community poll while signed in, Praveta records your response and associates it with your account so that each account participates once per poll.

Questions you ask

If you use Ask Praveta, the question you submit and the related official source material are sent to a Praveta server function in order to generate an answer.

How Praveta uses information

  • To create and secure your account and keep you signed in.
  • To show the representatives, districts, and local government information relevant to the ZIP code you provide.
  • To save the bills, representatives, and topics you follow.
  • To record community poll participation.
  • To generate answers when you use Ask Praveta.
  • To respond to you if you contact Praveta.

Public information and private information

Government information shown in Praveta — legislation, recorded votes, representative records, and published local government material — is public information drawn from official sources.

Your account information, ZIP code, follows, and preferences are private to your account. Praveta's database access rules are configured so that a signed-in user can read and change only their own account records.

Community poll results are presented in aggregate. Praveta is not designed to publicly display an individual user's poll response.

Selling information and advertising

Praveta does not sell your personal information, and Praveta does not run advertising on this website.

Third-party services Praveta uses

  • Supabase — authentication, database, file storage, and server functions.
  • Congress.gov and Senate.gov — official sources for legislation, member, and recorded-vote information. These requests are made by Praveta's servers.
  • Praveta's hosting provider — serves this website and processes standard server request information.

Praveta does not use advertising networks or third-party analytics or tracking scripts on this website.

Browser storage

Praveta stores information in your browser's local storage rather than using tracking cookies. This includes your signed-in session, your display and accessibility preferences, and recent Ask Praveta conversations so they are still there if you return to a page. You can clear this at any time by clearing your browser storage for this site.

Your choices

  • You can read Praveta without an account.
  • Providing a ZIP code is optional.
  • You can unfollow bills, representatives, and topics at any time.
  • You can change your notification preferences at any time.
  • You can delete your Praveta account.

See deleting your Praveta account for exactly what deletion does.

Children

Praveta is intended for a general audience interested in government information and is not directed to children.
